Education in Russia

According to "Agreement Between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Russian Federation on Cooperation in Relation to the Construction and Operation of a Nuclear Power Plant at the Akkuyu Site in the Republic of Turkey" which signed on 12 May 2010 in Ankara, Akkuyu Nükleer A.Ş. was established to carry out the Akkuyu NPP Project. Akkuyu Nükleer A.Ş. provides education on undergraduate and graduate level and professional specialist training in nuclear power plants of Russia for Turkish students. Turkish students will work in Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant after they graduate. It is planned that 600 Turkish students will be sent to Russia for this purpose. As of this year, 261 Turkish students are undergoing their education. By taking nuclear engineering education in Russia, they will work in Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant.

Students have been undergoing their education in MEPHI University's Moscow and Obninsk Campuses and St. Petersburg State Polytechnic State University. Student selection is made by written and oral examinations. The expenses of the students who are successful in the written and oral exam and who are entitled to participate in the training program are met by Akkuyu Nükleer A.Ş. Monthly scholarships and dormitories are provided throughout the education period.

The training program is basically as follows: In addition to Russian language education in the first year, education of Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science and Technical Drawing are also provided. After the language education, the students are subjected to a Russian exam in June, and the students who successfully complete the preparatory education are registered to the first grade of the university. Students will be subjected to 5.5 years of specialized training. Students who have successfully completed the training program will receive practical training at the training centers of Rosatom (Russian Atom Energy Company) and will be subjected to an internship program for 1 to 3 years in the Nuclear Power Plants (NPP) in Russia according to the position selected.
